UHC History and Tradition

For almost 65 years the Nicolodi family in Canazei have dedicated themselves with passion to tourism. This tradition was borne through the experiences of the two families from the late 1800s, in their respective farming and hospitality businesses in Alto-Adige/Südtirol.

Aldo and Clara Nicolodi began their journey in Alto-Adige/Südtirol and moved to the Fassa Valley, Trentino at the end of the 1950s, at the start of the tourism boom. With intuition, courage and many sacrifices, they invested all their resources in a pioneering enterprise, which has continued to develop over the years. Later on, their children also joined the family business and from a young age the children learnt the importance of hard work and a sense of  responsability, thanks to their parents’ example, as well as appreciating the satisfaction of working with people and the continual development of their business. It is thanks to the strong bonds within the Nicolodi family that today they can demonstrate their expertise in the hospitality sector, by offering a product which boasts valid and varied services, as well as being of top quality. The administration can be defined as “mixed”; although undeniably managerial, it retains a familial approach, both in terms of the “hands on” style of the family and also because of the links with its many employees who, over the years, have grown to trust the proprietors. This approach has lead to a maturing of the business and its workforce, borne out of years of experience and learning.

Our Union Hotels Group Canazei and Campitello di Fassa operates during the summer and winter seasons, in one of the most enchanting places in the world, The Val di Fassa, Trentino, in the heart of the Dolomites, an area which has been named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, and which has one of the largest ski areas in the world, the DolomitiSuperski, which boasts 1220kms of pistes and 450 skilifts, a truly internationally renowned winter sports paradise. Apart from our various hotels, we offer restaurants, pubs, discos, fully equipped playgrounds, conference facilities, health and beauty spas and fitness gyms. All this means we can offer employment to a large number of people and offer hospitality to guests from over 30 countries worldwide.

From this position, the Nicolodi family have developed important collaborations with other families who have supported us with other initiatives. Contributions from employees, consultants, suppliers and guests, and their many suggestions, have allowed us to constantly improve and guarantee the efficiency of our hotels and businesses, notwithstanding the difficulties associated with the organisation , and climatic problems, determined by the position of  Union Hotels at over 1400m above sea level. Every year we undertake building projects to restructure, expand and improve our existing premises, and introduce new digital technologies; this is in addition to refresher courses for our staff which enable us to develop new strategies and methodology to improve our services.

Every hotel has a modern fitness centre, a wellness and relaxation centre, most with a swimming pool or a mini hydromassage pool and multi-use rooms for meetings or entertainment. Also available to guests is the beauty farm and sporting centre; a fully-equipped beauty farm and a gym equipped with the latest technogym equipment. The congress and entertainment centre is situated in Canazei, completing the range of offers that Union Hotels can propose. This centre, with its imposing size is unique to the area, offers a main conference hall which can be adapted to suit individual needs, and various adjacent rooms decorated in traditional rustic style.The centre can be booked for conferences, shows or banquets. It is an important venue for diverse activities such as musical, theatrical, sporting, competitions, fashion shows, folklore festivals, local artisan expositions, and annually hosts many of the important meetings and congresses held in Canazei. There is also an American Bar and disco club which complete the host of leisuretime proposals which Union Hotels offers in the upper valley.

We invented and maintain the idea of the 5Es EVENT –ENTERTAINMENTS - ENTHUSIASM - EMOTION - ENERGY which represents and identifies Union Hotels with the pledge to continue to develop, improve and promote tourism in the Val di Fassa.

Great attention has been given to the gastronomic side of the business, with local specialities, and the best of both national and international dishes, as well as themed dinners, being offered each evening. It is our aim to promote the art, the traditions and the culture of the Val di Fassa, as well as those of the wider Dolomitic regions of Trentino-Alto Adige and Veneto.
